Few days ago, I wanted to check how many backlinks pointed to my website and I definitely was going to use the most popular tool for that, “Yahoo! Site Explorer” but oh, look what I got.
Hmmm, where did Yahoo! Site Explorer go? Yahoo! announced that they are going to merge Site explorer into Bing webmaster tool. Don’t worry about the traffic data, they are integrating it into Microsoft search platform. You need to start using Bing webmaster tool to guarantee that your website will continue getting high quality organic search traffic from Bing and Yahoo. You can get more information on Webmaster Center blog or Yahoo search blog .
So now how I can check my backlinks? There is few ways I know of. The Google search query “link:domain.com”, but it doesn’t show all your backlinks just to avoid people reverse engineering Google’s algorithm. The other option is to use Google Webmasters Tools and I think it the best solution to see the backlinks of your own sites. But if you want to see backlinks of websites you don’t own you can use Open Site Explorer and it is a tool developed by SEOMoz but it is not all free because you have to sign up for a Pro membership if you want to check all the info about your backlinks.
If you know any other tools to check backlinks, just leave a comment below and I will check it out. Thanks!

I didn’t even realize this. I use Yahoo Search Explorer all the time to check backlinks.
I hope there’s a replacement that can easily be accessed just the same from Bing Webmaster Tools.

Thanks for the heads-up on the demise of Yahoo Site Explorer. Hopefully the replacement will be as functional and easy to work with.
